  • 1200

By William M. Gilbert

This short booklet gives an outline of the Gaillard or Gaylord family history and Pedigrees in France, England, and the United States. The name is ancient, as records in Europe show. When they became Huguenots, they lost their wealth, land, titles, and being persecuted fled France for England in 1550. They were protected under Queen Elizabeth during her reign in 1558. They then fled persecution and emigrated to America's British Colonies during the reign of Charles I. Among these Huguenots was William Gaylord who settled in Dorchester, Mass in 1630. In 11638 he moved to and was one of the founders of Windsor, Connecticut.
