CIVIL WAR

The American Civil War, fought from 1861 to 1865, was a pivotal conflict between the Northern states (Union) and the Southern states (Confederacy), primarily over the issues of slavery and states' rights. Key figures included President Abraham Lincoln, Confederate General Robert E. Lee, and Union General Ulysses S. Grant. The war resulted in the abolition of slavery and the preservation of the Union, but it left the nation deeply divided. The Civil War reshaped American society, economy, and politics, with its legacy still influencing the country today.
