In the Senate of Indiana, Mach 6, 1865 it was agreed that the Adjutant General be required to make up a full and complete report of his office (during the current war), with information relating to the State of Indiana or United States as it may be of public interest. Detailed information includes rosters of governor's military staff, Indiana officers commissioned by the President, officers and historical memoranda of Indiana regiments, numbered from the sixth to the seventy-fourth. Vol. 1 contains a report of the General with documents showing statistics of troops, deaths, discharges, transfers, promotions, and desertions. Vol. 2-3 The Rosters of Officers, Vol. 4 and subsequent volumes contain the names of all non commissioned officers, privates, their regiments and companies, residences, dates of enlistment, muster, death, discharge ,etc, as shown by the official rolls.
