This book serves as a genealogy of the Fulton family for five generations, focusing on Robert Fulton (born Nov., 1765), his boyhood, the inventor and his efforts in building a steamboat. His father, Robert Fulton Sr., arrived in America from Kilkenny about 1750. First he settled in Philadelphia then in 1759 moved with his family to Lancaster County, Penna. He married Mary Smith who was of Irish descent. He died in 1768 leaving a widow, two sons and three daughters in very poor circumstances.
