Charles Bancroft, born in 1788, went to Montreal, Canada from New York, United States sometime before 1815. He helped in the foundation of the Montreal Bank, serving as vice president for a short time and soon after became the director and vice president of the newly organized Bank of Canada. This book tells of his ancestors such as Thomas Bancroft of England and Reading, Massachusetts and his many descendants.
