Calhoun Family of South Carolina. date?

  • 1200

By A. S. Salley, Jr.

This gives a record on Calhoun Family of South Carolina. The earliest record of the founders, the four Calhoun brothers, were in Staunton, Virginia in 1746. They were James, Ezekiel, William and Patrick, and according to court records Mr. Patton complained that they were divulgers of false news to the great detriment of the inhabitants of the colony. In 1756 after a long court battle the family moved to South Caroilina where they purchased land. In 1760 there was a Cherokee Indian massacre and a number of the settlers in the area were slain.
