The Cannon name is of French origin. This book gives the history of Andrew Cannon and his descendants, from 1651 to 1912. Andries Canon was one who fled France to England then to America. He is noted on Staten Island in 1656 where he raised his family. He appears to have been a devout member of the Dutch Church at Staten Island, New York. Various spellings of the name are found.
