This is the history of the Colby Family in Europe and America, and of  Gardner Colby who saved Waterville College in Waterville, Maine. Later it was named Colby University. Gardner's father was a sea captain who lost his all in the War of 1812, leaving his young widow of age twenty five and family of four. Gardner was ten.
