In this book Sketches of the Forney Family, we see the earliest immigrant ancestor in America is Johann Adam Forney (Farny) who arrived in 1721. The name in America varied in spelling. They are of German and Swiss origin and came to America to escape religious persecution. Thousands of these Swiss and German Palatinates came to and settled in Pennsylvania between 1710 and 1745 when summoned by William Penn.
