Daniel Fox of East Haddam, Connecticut was born about 1722 and came from a family of New London, Connecticut. He was married three times and had children with his first two wives. His first marriage was to Hannah Burr in 1747 and they had six children. She died while they lived in East Haddam. His second wife was Elizabeth Gates, with whom he had eight children. The four sons enlisted and served in the army during the war of the Revolution. Their stories are included. During the Revolutionary War, in 1779, their family moved to Canaan, New York, where he bought 170 acres of land. Elizabeth died while they lived there. His third marriage was to the widow Winslow, who left him after living with him a short time. .His descendants are listed to six generations.
