GRESHAM: Biographical and historical sketches of Gresham of America and Overseas
By Alexander Taylor Strange
This book provides the Gresham family English ancestry, and connects the English with the American families. It was a family distinguished in diplomacy and philanthropy. The importance of the family in a national sense began early. In the sixteenth century, about 1560, Sir Thomas Gresham of London, was knighted and became an important figure in affairs of the state. Some eighty years later, in 1641, John Gresham, "Gent" with his wife and son, emigrated to America. He was a nephew of above mentioned Sir Thomas. He settled in Arundel, MD. There are other sketches of Greshams of distinction.
