By Mrs. Helen Gulick Huntley (Mrs. W.M)

These are the descendants of Pieter Gulick, born about 1689. He married Eva, daughter of Fernandus Van Sicklen, whose her sister married Pieter's brother, Johannes. They had fourteen children. They were of Dutch or German origin, and came to America settling in New Netherlands. It was a common practice with the first Dutch settlers to write their names with the place from which they came, as in Van Tilsburg (from Tilsburg). It is probable that the name Gulick originates in the same way. On the passenger list of the ship "Hope" from Amsterdam in 1662 is the name Albert Euer Van Gulick (from Gulick). On the register of marriages in the Dutch Church of NY several are recorded from Gulick. Pieter Gulick was born in Long Island in September, 1689, one out of ten children born to Jochem and his wife Jacomyntie Van Pelt. Several of these children settled in New Jersey soon after their father's death, about 1720.  Pieter died in 1774 at the age of eighty -five.  Typescript
