GUTHRIE: Records of the Guthrie family of Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Virginai with ancestry of those who have intermarried with the family.

  • 2400

By Harriet A. & Eveline Guthrie Dunn

This publication on the Guthrie family shows their ancient history in Scotland, and because of the religious persecution under which the family suffered, the emigration of brothers James, John and Robert Guthrie to America, where they first settled in Boston. The family in Edinburgh, Scotland were of the best middle class and interested in the manufacture of iron. In Connecticut John engaged in the iron business, running a forge and furnace on the Housatonic River. There he died in 1730, leaving four sons, who carried on the business. We see the will and estate inventory of John Guthrie. We're given information on William of Pennsylvania and Delaware, who was a descendant of James Guthrie, one of the three brothers who emigrated from Edinburgh about 1683.
