It contains records on ten generations, ancient wills, maps, pictures, biographical sketches, the coat of arms, the origin of the name and more. See the spelling variations of the name that include Heynes, Haynes. Samuel Haines was born in England in 1611. He was an apprentice to John Cogswell, a cloth manufacturer of Westbury, Wiltshire. He came to New England in 1635 with Mr. Cogswell in the ship Angel Gabriel. The day after their arrival they encountered the Great Hurricane, a storm so severe that the vessel was driven ashore and broke to pieces.
