On a trip to Brookfield, Massachusetts the author begins his quest for family records and information. This book provides ten generations of Hamiltons over a period of 300 years of American history. These records concerning the Hamilton family begin with John Hamblton (Hamelton) with first record in 1658. Next is John Jr- (1667-1747) known as the yeoman of Concord, when he came to Brookfield. The following Joseph, Josiah and Jude were farmers in Brookfield when they were not fighting Indians in frontier skirmishes and taking part in the Revolutionary War. The others varied from merchants, hat makers to ministers and so on. Related families are listed in the table of contents as pictured.
In the book by Charles William Hamilton, Learn the fascinating details of the Hamiltons who were among the Scotch prisoners on board the ship in 1651, that was sent to Massachusetts by order of the English government. A John Hamilton was one of those prisoners sent over before the John and Sara shipment. He is seen in Charlestown where, in 1658, he had a small grant of land.
