This Harris family booklet is a brief memoir and biographical sketch of Edward Harris, a Puritan, known for his honesty brave and capable character always ready for theological discussions. He had been a captain in the Revolutionary Army and emigrated from Massachusetts to Kentucky. President Washington appointed him the first postmaster and military storekeeper at Washington, Kentucky. Records are given on this branch of the Harris family from 1634 to 1820. Edward Harris, of Washington, Mason County, Kentucky received mention in the Life of General Albert Sidney Johnston, who was his grandson.
