HARTMAN: Johannes Hartman of Chester County, Pennsylvania and his descendants 1937
By John M. Hartman
This is the story and genealogical history of Johannes Hartman of Chester County, Pennsylvania, and his descendants. Johannes, his wife Margaret, two sons and three daughters sailed on the ship Royal Union in August, 1750 from Rotterdam, Holland and arrived at the Port of Philadelphia. Tradition says they came from Wittenberg, Germany, but that hasn't been proven. August 15, 1750 he took the Oath of Allegiance to King George of Great Britain. He acquired a tract of land in Pikeland Twp. The Hartman farm was situated near Hallman's Station, on the Pickering Valley Railroad in East Pikeland Twp., Chester County. Most farms in this area were taken by Germans. The French and Indian War began in 1753, soon after their arrival, as well as the American Revolution.
