Emery Hastings and Mary Bassett of Barre, Mass were married Oct. 1, 1821. Descended from Thomas Hastings who was the first settler of the family in New England. He resided in Watertown, Massachusetts. Thomas Hastings and his wife Susannah, embarked at Ipswich, England, April 10, 1634 in the ship Elizabeth. They settled in what was called the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Susannah died in 1650 and Thomas married  Margaret. Samuel was the youngest son of Deacon Thomas Hastings.
