HERKIMER: The Herkimers and Schuylers, an historical sketch of the two families, with a genealogy of the descendants of George Herkimer 1903

  • 2000

By Phoebe Strong Cowen

The Herkimers and Schuylers, two hundred years of traced history and lineage of ancestors of the two families, with a genealogy of the descendants of Jurgh (George) and Madaline Herkimer. George settled in the Mohawk Valley of New York in 1721, after coming to America from the Palatinate region of Germany. This area of the Rhine had been ravaged by war for seventy-five years, with brief intevals of peace. Homes and villages were destroyed and inhabitants so brutally treated that they left their native country in despair, with no hope for justice. These pioneer settlers played an important role in the shaping of the history of America, through it's ups and downs, in the wars and times of peace.
