This is a Revised and Enlarged edition of the book that was originally published in 1890 by the same author.

It provides a record of the Hess family and the descendants of Samuel Hess, the first immigrant of this line that came to America.  Samuel Hess was among a Swiss colony that came to America in 1712. In 1734 his son, Jacob took up a tract of land, that was 200 acres, one mile west of Lititz, Pennsylvania. In the third generation John Hess lived on the farm with his father Jacob. Listd are his two sons and eight daughters who comprise the next generation. Reverend John Hess of the fourth gen was born in 1768 and he became a minister of the Mennonite church.
