By Thomas Wentworth Higginson
In April 1629, two ships set sail from Gravesend for the two month voyage to America. They were called the 'Talbot' and 'Lyons Whelpe'. On board the first was Francis Higginson, son of the Rev John Higginson. They arrived June 29, 1629. One of his daughters, Mary, died on the voyage. We see writings from his journal, we see his contract of pay as a minister. He lived little more than a year after his arrival in Salem, dieing in August 1630. He left a widow and eight children. This book provides the descendants of the Reverend Francis Higginson, the first "teacher" in the Massachusetts Bay colony of Salem, Massachusetts and author of "New-Englands plantation" (1630)
