Chronicles of the Hinsdale Family was compiled by the author in his 73rd year for his sons. It is an autobigraphy and with data to 1883, it is the genealogy for five generations that begin with Captain Elisha Hinsdale. Elisha Hinsdale was born in Connecticut in 1761. At age sixteen he enlisted in the Continental Army, served three years in the Central army between New York and the Potomac, in the darkest period of the war, and wintered at Valley Forge. He became sick and his father brought him home.
