Chaper 1 begins with the first Hereward, 857-973 - William Hereward defends the Isle of Ely. Chapter 2 The first Duke of Norfolk, Sir John Howard - his occupation in Peace 1468. It speaks of the war services of Eleanor, Lady Suffolk, as she gave her services throughout the war as commandant of two hospitals, and as a staff nurse. In 1917 she was mentioned for good work and later awarded by His Majesty the Royal Red Cross, in acknowledgement of her services.
