HUTCHINSON: Notes upon the ancestry of William Hutchinson & Anne Marbury 1866

  • 1200

By Joseph Lemuel Chester

This is brief ancestry of the descendants of William Hutchinson and Anne Marbury of Massachusetts, as published in 1866. William and his wife, Anne Hutchinson, came to America with several children. His father was Edward, solving the family mystery at the time, of the connections with Governor Hutchinson. Anne was a midwife and became well known in history when she challenged the Puritan preachers as they taught law or works based salvation vs it being grace based. She met with women and men discussing the Sunday sermons. After her continued speaking out, they went to trial in 1637. She was tried and convicted and banished from the colony for her views. As with many New Englanders, they are descended from some who fled oppression in their native land and sought shelter in the New World.
