Clifton W. Potter Jr., Ph.D.
A Veritable Treasure

I am the offspring of two brances of the Potter family--Rhode Island and North Carolina. This volume was published the year my maternal grandmother, Rachel Marie Potter, was born in Rome, New York. In 1913 she married my grandfather, William Roberts Carr Dameron, and two years later my mother, Charlotte Elizabeth Dameron was born in Rome, New York. In 1917 the family moved to Lynchburg, Virginia. My father Clifton Potter lived two blocks from my mother, and in 1936 they married. Thanks to C.W. Potter's book, I was able to trace my line back to 1637, and the arrival of Nathaniel Potter in Rhode Island to be part of Roger Williams settlement. Using this volume I was able to prove my right to join The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and MOLLUS. The most rewarding $42.00 I ever spent!
