George Leib Harrison's life was marked by his pursuits in law, business, and philanthropy. Born in 1811, he attended Harvard, studied law, and engaged in the family business. He later joined Powers and Weightman and established his sons in the Franklin Sugar Refinery. His philanthropic efforts included work with the Episcopal Church, service at St. Luke's Church, and involvement with charitable organizations. He delved into social issues, publishing works like "Chapters on Social Science" and "Legislation on Insanity". Harrison received honorary degrees and served on various boards and institutions. His first marriage was to Sarah Ann Waples, and after her death, he wed Letitia Henry Mitchell. George Leib Harrison passed away in September 1885.
George's son, the author of this book, William Welsh Harrison, was the man who organized the construction of Gray Towers Castle, presently on the campus grounds of Arcadia University, in Glenside, Pennsylvania.
