This text details the life story of Amanda Meredith Hill, told from her perspective in her later years. Born in 1856 in Tennessee and grew up during the Civil War, she grew up in poverty but was self-reliant and hard-working. She married twice, first at age 18 to Sevier Evans who died a year later, and then to W. R. Hill in 1879. They had 11 children together and lived on a farm in Tennessee. Her husband fell ill in 1900 and died in 1901, after which she moved with her children to Wolfe City, Texas. She struggled to support her family by running a boarding house and teaching school. Though poor, she had many good friends and neighbors who helped her through difficult times. She considered family, faith and hard work to be the most important things in life. Despite hardships, she had many happy memories of raising her children and spending time with family and friends.
