A booklet on John Howland of the Mayflower, who was born in 1592, the son of Henry, and had at least four brothers who also came to America. Two of the Howland family lines ended in heiresses. Ruth married Thomas Cushman, David married Joanna Billington, Desire married John Gorham, and Lydia married John Sargent. The Pilgrims formed a civil body politic for the colony's better ordering and preservation. Joseph Howland married Elizabeth Southworth, and Thomas Howland married Joanna Cole.
