The Pilgrims formed a civil body politic for the colony's better ordering and preservation. Joseph Howland married Elizabeth Southworth, and Thomas Howland married Joanna Cole.

Samuel Bliss and William Chase were early settlers with descendants in Rehoboth and Yarmouth. Samuel's son, Samuel Goff, held the rank of lieutenant and was involved in operating a store and sawmill.
