Civil War Diary of David McKee Claggett

David McKee Claggett was born April 28, 1835, into a large family in Elkton, Kentucky.  He was eighth of at least a dozen children of James Wilson Claggett and his wife Miriam McKee. His Grandfather Ninean Claggett is recorded as having fought in the Revolutionary war. His Great Grandfather James Wilson is said to be one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. David studied law before joining the military at the onset of the Civil War. He was captain of the 25th Kentucky Volunteers and Major of the 17th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. This Diary is a reproduction of the text that he wrote. It includes over 20 maps of where his unit fought with major battles highlighted.
