The origin of the branch of the Atwater family in the United States is traced to the county of Kent, England. The first generation starts with David Atwater, one of the first painters of New Haven, who married Damaris and had 10 children: Mercy, Damris, David, Joshua, John, Jonthan, Abigail, Mary, Samuel an Ebenezer.
