This is the life of Colonel Joseph Foster (1730-1804) who was born in Ipswich, Massachusetts. His father was Captain Jeremiah Foster and his mother Dorothy Rust Foster. Joseph was the seventh of twelve children. He was great- great grandson of Reginald Foster who was believed to come from England to America in 1638. Joseph married first, Lydia Giddings, the mother of all their children. He married second, Hannah Davis, a widow. They had no children together. These are his children and grandchildren, with supplemental records, 1887-1947. The Foster family is well known and reputable in America and an ancient name in England dating back to 837 A.D.
