This book covers the Gilmer family in America that began with the emigrant ancestor, Dr. George Gilmer. Variations of the name includes Gilmor, Gilmour, Gilmore, and are all of the same Scottish origin. George Gilmer was born near Edinburgh in 1700. His father was William Gilmer, an advocate, a member of the family which owned the castle and estate of Craigmiller for several generations.
