By Leon A. Goodale
This is the genealogy of the Goodale family and the story of Edward and Sarah Temple Goodale, pioneer settlers of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts from 1738-1786, and the township of Boylston and West Boylston. The French and Indian War broke out in 1755 and raged a blow to to the family, as their father Edward died at the age of forty-two in June of 1756. Sarah Temple Goodale whose long life spanned all the changes in the town lines, actually lived in three distinct townships although occupying the same dwelling during the entire period. Another profound change that took place in her lifetime was the step from loyal allegiance to the British crown to active support of liberty and independence in the establishment of a new nation . Three of her sons were minutemen in the American Revolution.
