This is the genealogy of the ancient Goode family name and the story of immigrant John Goode of Whitby, Virginia, a colonist of the seventeenth century. Born in Whitley, England, went to Barbados 1643-1650, married, and came to America prior to 1660. His wife named Mackarness, died soon after arriving in Virginia, and left a son Samuel. We see the history of the English surname with the various spellings that include Gode, Goad, Goode, and Good, dating from 1148 to 1887. Included are the names of those who served in America's wars, those who attended college, the family arms .
