By Sarah Gorham Webb & Burnham S. Colburn
The North Carolina Gorhams are a branch of the New England Gorhams, whose immigrant ancestor was Captain John Gorham of the Plymouth Colony. He was the son of Ralph and grandson of James. He was a captain while serving in King Philip's War. He died of fever at Swansea and was buried there. The founder of the North Carolina branch was Col. James Gorham, a great-great grandson of the above mentioned Captain John and Desire (Howland) Gorham.
