GOULD: Descendants of Richard Gould of Chatham, MA, 1788-1871
By Abbie E. Gould Ames & Charles A. Sawyer
This booklet gives the history and genealogy of the Gould family and that of Richard Gould of Chatham, Massachusetts (1788-1871). He is of the line of Zaccheus Gould (1589-1668) of Topsfield (Ipswich). We see the early history of the family shown through records in the year 1235 where Thomas Gould signs a document, apparently as trustee of the church of Moulsoe in Buckinghamshire. The family lived in the small village of Bovingdon, England. Richard Gould was a sea captain in his early life, operating a line between New York and Boston. He was later involved in farming and community life, a representative of Barnstable county, serving his townspeople.
