The Griffith family is of Welsh origin, and an ancient one, descended from Rhys, son of Tudor Mawr, son of Griffith, Prince of South Wales. Another account has descent from Lieylllyn, the last King of Wales. This book gives the family history and genealogy. They came to America, and settled there as part of the early establishments were made in are known in Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania.
