HARDENBERGH, Leaves out of Ancestral Tablets, from Colonial Days to the Present Era 1893
By Theo. W. Welles
From the earliest days of America, the Colonial Days to the 1893, these are the ancestral records of the Hardenbergh family. The Hardenbergh name is of German origin. In the mid 1600s we see Arnoldus Van Hardenbergh and his brother, Jan Van Hardenbergh where in 1644 cargo is brought over and in 1659 a deed executed for "a house, lot and garden, fenced, built on and bounded"... in New York City the estate left by Jan Van Hardenbergh. He came to America from Holland prior to 1644, and was a landholder in New Amsterdam (New York), was engaged in merchant pursuits, and had a wife and children. Information on related families includes Schepmoes, Pietersen, Rutsen, Van Breestede, Bergen, Da Rapelle, Trico, and more. (Page #s 79-176).
