HERTZLER-HARTZLER: The Hertzler-Hartzler Family History 1952
By Silas Hertzler
This is the Hertzler-Hartzler family history laid out in detail, beginning with a biography of Jacob Hertzler. He was born in 1703, of Swiss parents, was a farmer and minister of the Amish Mennonite Church. This group was at first called anabaptist, and began in 1525. Jacob was married in Switzerland. With his first wife he had one son, John. She died and was buried in Europe. His second wife was Catherine, and they had children. On account of being persecuted for his faith, his family emigrated to America. They landed in Philadelphia in 1749. He resided in Berks County, near Hamburg. His descendants and allied lines by marriage are included, along with historical notes. He is the first generation of Hertzlers in America recorded in this registry. They lived mainly in Berks, Chester, and Lancaster Counties, Pennsylvania.
