HAYDEN: Records of the Connecticut line of the Hayden family 1888

  • 4500

By Jabez Haskell Hayden

This is a genealogical record of the Hayden (Heydon) family of England and of  Connecticut. This ancient family, belonging to the 'Order of Knights', acquired the name from the town of Heydon in Norfolk, where they were first seated and had original estate. We are given a great deal of their early history. The ancestor of this line of the Haydens was William Hayden, of the Devon line, and came to America in the 'Mary and John'. During this time thee was great religious activity in England. The Church of England was not favorable to the Puritans and the legal penalties inflicted upon them who rebelled caused them to seek relief in emigration rather than continue to submit to the restraints put upon them. There were three Haydens William, John and James among the early settlers of Massachusetts, and were probably brothers.
