Samuel Haines was born in England in 1611. He was an apprentice to John Cogswell, a cloth manufacturer, and came to New England with him in the ship Angel Gabriel. He reached the shores of 'the new world' in August, 1635. In 1638 Samuel returned to England, married, and soon returned to New England. He was a religious man and ordained a Deacon in 1671. It is through this line that we have John Russell Haynes, in the seventh generation. Ancestors and descendants of John Russell Haynes include Haines, Cotton, Bradstreet, Dudley, Hubbard, and Brainerd families.
