HEMPLEMAN: History of the Hempleman Family in America 1912
By George Whiteley
This is the history and record of the Hempleman Family in America. George Hempleman, one of the founders of the family in America, was born in Hessie Castle, Germany in 1732. Had he stayed in Germany he would have taken the title of his father, Lord Hempleman. But he fell in love with Margarette Duffy and vowed to marry her but could not do so and live in Germany, for she was one of the poor peasant families that worked for Lord H. Without having money for the voyage a bargain was made with a company to take them to America. They left for America, hoping to get married, and after much tumolt landed in Virginia in 1752, being strangers in a strange land. They had to work to earn their voyage fee and were each sold like slaves or servitude, going in different directions for four years. They vowed to meet up after their four year service at the Richmond Old St John's church.
