By Heber H. Henry
This publication from 1922 gives the history and ancestral genealogy of John Henry of Bern Township, Athens County, Ohio and his descendants. He was the second child of Robert and Mary Henry and was born in Derry County, Ireland in March 1763. He came to America in 1788. He worked on a farm in Chester County, Penna, for three years, then returned to Ireland for a time. After losing his investment in flax seed, when the vessel wrecked and it went to the bottom of the ocean, he returned to America with part of his family where they resided in Chester County, Penna, until 1801. He later moved his family to Bern Twp, Ohio where he lived until his death in 1854, at the age of 90. During his long life he was a continuous example of industry and economy. His first wife, Rachel, whom he married in Ireland, died in 1809. With her they had five sons and four daughters. In 1811 he married Margaret McNutt and together they had four sons and six daughters, nineteen children in all.
