The Hess family is of German origin. This short book gives a brief history of the family name, where they lived in Europe and explains why they left their native land for America. Johannes Hess was eighteen years old when he came to New York and settled in 1710. He married Catherine Lubosin who died shortly after. He returned to Germany and married a second time, to Margaretta. They came to America. There were eight children. One son was killed by Indians in the Mohawk Valley Massacre.
