This is a family name of Anglo- Saxon origin, and has long been distinct in England. Presented are seven generations of descendants of Captain Thomas Hewitt (b. 1625) and his wife Hannah Palmer (b. 1634), of Stonington, CT. He was a mariner and captain of a ship that sailed out of Boston, trading, and by 1656 had settled at the mouth of the Mystic River in Stonington. Recorded are those being born before 1850.
