The son of immigrant Christopher Huffhines, who came from Holland or Germany, and settled in North Carolina, where brothers Daniel and John were born. John was born August 15, 1800. In 1802 the family moved to Kentucky. John Huffhines married Elizabeth Wright and they had fourteen children. With the bright prospect of fertile lands to be obtained, the family moved from Kentucky to Texas in 1853. All the children moved to Texas, some married with their families. It took several weeks, coming by carriage and wagons and on horseback. They bought up land there. John lived to 1875, he died after a brief illness from contracting measles.
