The Hatfields; A Genealogy of the Descendants of Captain John Hatfield, Loyalist, an Officer of the British Army who came to America in pre-Revolutionary times. He was born about 1740 in England. He married Mary Lockerman in New York City and they had eight sons and four daughters. He died in Nova Scotia in 1804, where the family had sailed to about 1783. From a diary we learn that 'The convoy was made up of fourteen vessels carrying 2000 Loyalists and was accompanied by a Frigate of War'..many had been members of the New Jersey Volunteers...they were largely located in tents..with the snow at times six feet or more in depth caused much suffering. It is reasonable to assume that Captain John was a member of the Church of England as activities show. Shown are six generations of descendants.
