REBECCA NURSE, Saint But Witch Victim (Reprint) (Softcover) 1930
By Charles Sutherland Tapley
"The belief in witchcraft or a supernatural power obtained by persons entering into a compact with the devil was prevalent among ancient nations, attended the Reformation, was active in Spanish America as late as 1877 and very much alive in England and Scotland in the 17th century.
The great Salem witchcraft delusion was due largely to the excitement caused by the teachings and writings of Cotton Mather, and broke into a frenzy in the family of Samuel Parris.
In this little volume Mr. Tapley has given in simple narrative style the story of witchcraft in Salem as exemplified by the trial and execution of Rebecca Nurse, one of the most widely known victims of this savage delusion." She was who was born in Yarmouth, England to William Towne and Joanna Blessing, and married Francis Nurse.
